Postby jennie » Mon Aug 29, 2005 9:46 pm

hey
im a self confessed city surfer. I love to surf however dont live on the coast, i try to get down there most weekends but cant improve much in the couple of days im there... I swim and run most mornings and have an indo board but can anyone recomend any other ways of improving without being in the water??

i live an hour from the beach and can only surf weekends (for now anyways). aside from more surfing - swimming is your best option, laps. makes your arms for paddeling and popping up. push-ups and squats are also good. i hear yoga is good for your flexability, etc. but i haven't tryed it yet.

my god!...you complain about only being able to surf at weekends...???? :-)
I live in Switzerland, no sea at all....and I have to wait and save up money everytime to be able to get back to surfing......
One day though, I leave the alps behind and find a place to live by the sea...

yeh..yoga is definitely good, but you have to do it a while to really notice a difference. Skateboarding is good but doesnt do much for paddling. Id recommend swimming and push ups for sure...

uuuff..can just imagine the vibe in your town....shiiiiiiver!!!!
Yeh the alps are beautiful, and if I didn't have them close by I'd definitely go insane too ;-)
been snowboarding all my life, and I love the powder freeriding for sure.....but ever since I've found the sea , I'm just hooked on surfing....
And If I had the choice between alps or the sea, no question.....
Where do you get to surf at weekends????

Hey how's Cornwall? Heard it's freakin cold there no????
Nevever been to Biarritz but heard it's goooood, very touristy though.....although I guess September is a better time....
I'm not sure if Hossegor is close by....supposed to be good, and apparantly there's a place close by, away from the crowd and heaps better...forgot the name though...st.germain or something???? hhhmmm....
So far I've only surfed Ecuador, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Marocco, Oz, and Nz....
Never made it to close by France....should though...
Enjoy it!!! meee green of envy... ;-)
You should come up and try the snowboarding one day...

hey ur right cornwall is cold but not as bad as the outer hebrides, i surfed there this summer which was really good because its so quiet and unspoilt and if ya get the weather it is superb surfing.
i have no idea what bairritz is gonna be like, sounds like waves will be good but not sure about the rest!
Im gonna try and head to Morzine for christmas, get some snowboarding in then...only been a couple of times but it was so good! its gonna be well busy though!
Is there much snow in december???

Just South of london.......near Kingston, i would say the nearest place is somewhere like bournemouth or boscombe but its a really inconsistant spot so its not always good if you want to go just for a weekend.

I tend not to go to cornwal anymore just coz it is such a trek, but there are places in devon like croyde and saunton which have become my favourite places to go.

Hope that helps!!

its alright here....bit boring sometimes, Where abouts in london are you?

Yer ive been to brighton quite a bit.......never surfed there tho, nothing to surf as far as im concerned, ive never seen it surfable. And well the furthest i have been to swimming there was jumping off the pier (very silly idea, involved alcohol).....i dont think it is very clean tho, there is always tons of rubbish around and i wouldnt be surprised if there was the odd turd lurking around
