Just wondering....how's Brazil if you don't understand the language???

Is it easy to get by?

my cousin went to run an ironman back in may. he really loved it, didnt know a word of portuguese. he said it wasnt too hard gettin by but it took him like 2 hours to find some advil (they dont use any medicine). i think if you go to a bigger city geared towards tourism its a whole lot easier.

We just spent 6 weeks in Brazil back in May, and the language barrier wasn't too much of a problem at all. A basic phrase book should see you out of trouble, and if all else fails, resort to the old fashioned method of hand signals and body language, (easy for my mates who ate chicken, not so easy for me trying to order a felafel). Seemed to get us out of trouble everytime, ha ha. Make sure you head to Florionopolis, (in my opinion) the best part of Brazil for waves, friendly people and a sick party scene!
