Short and fat

When the waves are nice and clean all you can see is bearded men stood on the nose of their board.

But when it's less than desirable, like today stringing cross wind or onshore all I see is people on really short but high volume surfboards.

I know carrying a 9 ft board on a windy day is not anybody's idea of fun but why does everyone seem to favour the short boards.

Were they the bearded guys, board selection is like golf club selection, different clubs for different conditions.

Then there are the guys who are influenced by fashion, often not as successfully as the advertising claims.

Ride the wave, first and foremost on a board that allows you to do it the way you like

It seems every big surfing brand make grovellers (small boards high volume). They do tend to work in most mush but if it is that bad there isn't really a point of going out.

single fin or 4 fin or 3 fins.

this sport really broke my rules. in skateboarding ther has always been a dogma to skate street and then your in the game. you wanna love the surfing thing u probably take the board with you that suits the waves and weather.
i ee a trend of short big volumed boards as well. but those things are kind of bulky in my opinion. im not saying i wont try one. but the longboard or malibu is clearly the better board for short and mid wave lengths to me.

If you can afford ordering a custom, I would get something around 7' with a sharp nose and lot of rocker and width and thickness, basically a scaled up shortboard.
I got something like that a while ago by chance at a garage sale, and I find that this particular board is the most versatile I own.
