Overseas for a year. easy to lean to surf??

Postby cateyd » Sat Aug 27, 2005 11:35 pm

Oh hey, I am from Australia and have surfed a few times on fun boards but I need advice abou getting into it seriously. I am going travelling shortly after christmas starting in Chile, working my way around South America, up through Central America and then onto Hawaii and the United States and I plan to be surfing or near a beach for most of my trip.

I was just wondering should I purchase a surfboard here in Australia or is it cheaper and easier to buy one Chile.

Also, does anyone know if cheap surfing lessons are readily available throughout surfing towns in these places? Thanks

most surf shops usually offer some kind of lesson - but usually most people only need one lesson at most to learn basics. after you learn basics, really it is just getting in the water and practicing until you get better. learn your balance, learn how the waves feel, when they break, timing, etc.

im prob not much help on purchasing a board cause i haven't done much traveling - but your definately on the right track with a fun board. good for learning, and a very high re-sale value, so you would not have a problem selling it when/if you want to get a more advanced board later on.

good luck
