Buying a Ahlers.

So I've been looking to get a better log to replace my 9'10 Madden rounded pintail. I saw a neighbor had one on his wall in his garage as I drove by. I stopped and asked him about it. He said he would sell it to me for $200. It's a 9'6x23 3/8x3 Ahlers squartail. I'll post pics of it. I can't find any dents or breaks or nothing except this black scratch line and the fin obviously has been rode into the beach but fin box is all good. Do y'all think this is a good buy?

Looks like a rubber chaff from racks or tie downs on by old rubber should clean off , check out whether there is any indentation where the mark is.
Like the board like the price (don't know the brand ) buy it, get fin of the sort you prefer. FIXED!

ok awesome yea there is no indention but it is a lil scratched. I can probably sand it out but i dont care cause it will be covered by wax anyways. So this price is really good eh? I also havent heard of the brand nor can i find them online except for two for sale around me. Its shaped by Jonathan Ahlers and the only guy with that name i found is a 27 year old who passed away in 2015 in Kentucky.

Hope you can do a drop-knee pivot turn. Can't exactly tell from the photo, but looks to be more of a Pig outline where the wide point is back of center.

$200 is within my long board buying rule. I will not pay more than $375 for a used long board. Below this threshold, I will pay more for poly boards and less for epoxy boards. I'd buy it (and I like square tail).

Good enough for me. He is letting me borrow it to make sure I like it before buying it but I'm pretty much sold just cause it looks so clean

Well i took it out today. It was a perfect day to test it out. I absolutely love this thing. Its so much better then my older board. I could cut harder and faster on this and i felt way more stable. I'm so pumped and cant wait to get it back out there.

you have no idea how much you've impressed the old and crusty guys in this forum. About 98% of the time, we see posts that say, "I bought a new _______ surfboard. Is this good for me?" You actually applied "try before buy," and weren't a goober that never surfed, but bought short board because you thought it cool. Kudos and beers to you, Man.

Cool. Yea id rather make sure the board will be good for me before spending money and then not having fun on it. Whats the point of buying something only to find out that i cant ride it and then ive wasted my money. I do however have a 7'6 board that is my shortboard and i wish i would have gotten it at 8 foot to make it a lil easier to catch waves on as i learn till i have that one down then go smaller. But i did get it so i will just take the longer road and learn as i can. Ive found out i really really like longboarding and actually am upset this board isnt 10 feet. Maybe ill ride this one for a while and maybe trade it for a 10 footer. But for now im having fun with this one.
