Surf is really good this weekend in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties. Just in time, too, because the annual Rincon Classic surf contest is on! Here's the webpage:
http://www.rinconclassic.com/rc17-sched ... t-details/Rincon in known as the "Queen of the Coast," and most of you know this is a world class surf break. Even so, the charm about this annual contest is many contestants are regional and local surfers. Sure, Bobby Martinez and few other professional surfers will compete in small numbers. This just adds to the fun. I particularly like the contests for longboard, teen boys, and adult women (wahines). Sometimes some of the young guys in my neighborhood compete. If recall serves, this is the 32nd Rincon Classic.
I will watch some of Sunday's finals in-person.
You didn't ask, but I will tell you.
Q1. Will Roxy Rideback go with billie to watch the contest?
A1. No. Roxy is banned from the contest. About 4 years ago she was racing along the beach and knocked down a prominent local kid surfer competing in the contest. The poor kid stood no chance. He was standing still, holding his short board, and looking in the opposite direction. He probably weighed about 80 pounds (36 kg). He was blindsided by a 3.25 ft (1 m), 100 pound (45 kg) hound bounding at more than 20 mph (32 kph).
Q2. How will billie travel economically and environmentally friendly to and find easy parking at Rincon?
A2. He will ride the blue moto in the photo. (intentional rhyme)
Q3. What does billie do with the yellow moto?
A3. This is the full-on dirt model. Today, billie road it to a secret spot in Gaviota. The blue moto belongs to billie's beloved nephew.
