I was in Jacksonville Fla when the last big hurricane hit and the surf was nice hours brfore land fall so we went and surfed. There was a nice guy who warned us about the storm and said he had a house near by if we wanted to go. We greatfuly declined and went surfing. When we returned to the beach our buddies car was gone. It was found an hour later by local police who asked us to ID the man who stole it and low and behold it was the man warning us about the storm!

i think that anyone lame enough to steal someones car, especially when your surfing should be shot in the face with a nail gun.

ive been v.unlcuky when it comes to theives. i had my own first surfboard stolen from my local beach a couple of months ago, and then the other day my boyfriend left my house only to walk outside and find that somebody had cut the straps off the roof of his van and stolen his longboard.

i cant stand it! you really cant trust anybody anymore! luckily i work in a surf shop so im praying the culprits bring it into my shop and try to sell it!!!

i have a poorboy leash with the fin key storage in the ankle strap. so that is where iput my car key. You see, i mad a copy of the key to get into my car, and i keep it in my surfboard leash. No way for my car to get stolen, or my stuff. I also never leave my boards on top of the car, i always keep them in the car.

when i was first learning to surf i had my stuff stolen off the beach (probably from locals pissed cause i was there) left my car keys though.

now i lock everything in the car, and my key goes around my neck on a shoelace.

for the person with the remote lock...leave it in the cat...dont set the alarm. if you lock it with a key you should be able to open it with just a key.

i still go with a leash/chain around your neck and slip the key down your back not your front .. you'll never know its there unless youve got one of those little troll's or summat daft on the key fob !!!

I've got one of the big chunky remote central locking keys, I wrap it in a plastic bag and slap it in my leash pocket, bit bulky but I don't worry about it. Here's an idea, why doesn't somebody create an online database for tealeafed boards, that people could check when someone tries to flog em a board???

Any takers?

...good idea ! , it would need a fair bit of work as ideally it would need every surf forum involved and a constantly updated info base for it to be effective enough but i reckon it would be a good idea to do it even if only one or two sites were involved " any helps better than no help "

I always thought there was a market for someone to do like a 'valet' system where they have a series of small lock boxes and surfers can pay £X to rent one for the day.

They can put there keys/ wallet etc in the box and get a wristband or something in exchange (like locker keys at swimming pools)

Then at the end of your session, you come back, get your keys and away you go!!

I can't believe no-one does it! If I ran a beach-side business I would start this up!

www.keygenie.co.uk One person I windsurf with uses this, and it's a great way of keeping your key safe. Another windsurfer wraps insulation tape around his electronic key fob, and that stays safe and continues to work although he goes out with it in his wetsuit. I find that the combination lock on www.keygenie.co.uk works well, and is less worry. Alternatively, like me, you could just not have a car and rely on someone else to take you to the beach (which presents a myriad of other worries) :(

Or just put it on a shoe lace and pit it round your neck.
