I'm new to the Washington, DC area and in anticipation for summer, does anyone know any good surf areas nearby?

Your best bets are to go down to VA Beach or surf the outer banks (hatteras). Also, Atlantic Beach, NC has a good number of good surf spots when there is a good offshore (iron steamer, fort macon, salter path) Then, you have wilmington and Wrightsville beach. Forget myrtle beach, head further south to folly beach in charleston, sc.

COME TO JERSEY. Manasquan Inlet is great, but if your looking for something smaller but definetely quality waves come to Normandy Beach, or anywhere around there.

i dont know how far you want to travel but Va Beach has some decent swells, down the coast in NC you can hit atlantic or emrald...there nice spots usually glassy or at least close to it...there is wrightsville near wilmington and just before you hit SC there is ocean isle....once you hit SC the only good spot that i like to hit is Myrtle...if you find any other spots along the coast in this area hook it up :) laterz

If your heading up to the NY area Rockaway beach is my favorite. NY I think the only place you can hop on a subway from Manhattan with your board and find decent waves.

if your in NY go to Long Island...at the end of it is a place called Montauk...best swells on the island...if you dont want to drive that far....Robert Moses will bump some times....best was field 5 when i left 3 years ago but im sure its changed now

Your best bet is probobly to take 95 North up to 42 to New Jersey. Should take you about 3 hours but the waves are suprisingly good.

outer banks has plenty of spots, and it's about a 4/4 1/2 hour drive. pea island/hatteras you can surf with nobody around for miles. if it starts blowing north/northeast, head down to frisco and the south facers

Ocean City is close but with any size usually closes out, best north is NJ, warmer water spots heading south include Va Beach, Hatteras, can get very good & Wilmington, NC area has some good breaks.
