You have a good memory! I'm going back next week when the storm and king tide have passed. :woot:

I've posted that picture before because I still cant believe anyone would surf it. I guess if the take off zone is safer, you are 'just' zooming along the face of the wave and its fairly rare to fall off - assuming you stay ahead of the curl. But, still....seems insane

Wearing a wetsuit is probably decent protection from the reef. People over here get shredded on the reefs not to mention the sea urchin spines they may also get. Helmet looks like a must for that break.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

Looks like one of those reefs with a perfect wave but expensive price to pay.
There's this one in my city, it's very shallow but not to the point it drains to the bottom, I'm considering surfing it when I have the skill level for it though it may take a long time

I was miraculously cure of a minor shark fear.
Scene a big wave spot central NSW coast , east coast deep water drop off , green dark water and weed covered rocks, sun setting behind coastal hill.
Six guys out swapping their BS shark stories to "impress" a young guy.

Unbeknownst to us a lurking event was about to occur!

Two full size humpback whales breeched not 50 yards from us out of the drop off driving their entire bodies out and in synchronised arc mightily tsunamiing down ( splash doesn't do it justice)

I'm sure they swam away laughing at the stench they had generated in six pairs of board shorts.

Moral of story ; if two humpies can sneak up on you unnoticed, why worry if you are prey , you will be the first to know!

  I wouldn't be surprised if they've had to navigate through a pod of whale watching SUP tourists more than once.

I got several dark fears:

1) Dislocate my shoulder and break my leash at the same time. Which means having to come back with no board, but without being able to swim either...
2) Hit my head/spine hard on a reef and get knocked out or paralyzed
3) [already happened] Getting caught in the biggest set of the day when you are already exhausted.
4) Shark attack, although none of the place I surf ever got attack.
5) Snake coral bite. Very unlikely, but if it does happen, you are sure to die in the next 10min
6) Surfing like xxxxx when a hot babe is watching me, and when I get a good one, she is looking away

I just realized how paranoid I am !
