What longboard to buy??

Postby Darkwire » Sat Jan 07, 2017 10:28 pm

Hallo everybody---- I want to now what longboard I buy because I have been surfing in shortboard for 4 years now but I think I would like to take up longboards also. I am 5'8" 70kg from Portugal and maybe I try performance longboard?? I try my friends mini mal 7'2" and it was very fun and turned easily i could do some wrapping cutbacks and top turns. I wants to keep this performance type surfing in longboards but ride a size around 8'0". Please advice me onto the right size of longboards thank you :D. As well I apologize for my bad English I have only been living in California for 1 and one half of years.

Your English is fine and so is your thought process about where you want to be in long boarding.
Size about 8ft sounds good..... although if you have any thoughts about competing then 9ft 1 inch would be the one ( the 1 inch is to ensure the board is over 9ft if measured)
Cruise the surf shops and look at what good Longboarder's are riding at your break, ask them .
Some shops have a try it before you buy it, make use of that, get a 2+1 fin set up so you have some ability to change things around.

Describing how you want to surf longboard style might help people advise you too.

Welcome to the fun land of length!

Length 8'0" ( per your request )
Width 21 1/2" - 22" ( 21 will make the outline too straight )
Thick 2 5/8" - 2 7/8" ( 2 1/2" if you're light and don't mind snapping boards )
Forget about nose concave
Small or baby Squash tail ( rounded pin in more powerful waves )
2 + 1 fin setup as Jaffa said
Put a tail/traction pad ( in the correct place )

Hi Darkwire,
You write English perfectly well! Welcome to our forum. I live in California, too. Presently, I live in Santa Barbara. In the past, I lived in many different cities in northern California. Where do you live and surf?
