Where and how begin !!!

Postby LoreSail » Fri Dec 16, 2016 4:24 pm

Hello, my name is Lorenzo from Italy i'm 20 and i want to learn how to surf !!! I've skated paddle surfed and sailed all my life. I've surfed only 2 time but i love everything that is sea. I've decided that i'm gonna take 6 month / 1 year just to learn how to surf. Where would you suggest me to start. Some school ? Some specific place ? My budget is farly good considering that i work with my laptop so i can work wherever i want. I have no Travel limitation i can go where every is better .
Thank you
And sorry for my english.
And sorry but i wasn't sure if that was more a "learn how to surf" or more a "Travel tips" post.

Go to the birthplace of surfing - Hawaii. Waikiki is perfect for smooth long rides. A month surfing there is like a whole year someplace else. So many world champions and top class surfers got their start there.

Wouldn't the localism be very bad in Hawaii? Especially for an outsider?

Outsiders are always welcome. They taste delicious if you cook them just right in the volcano.

Why does Hawaii have better surf than Australia :?:
Human sacrifice of virgins into volcanoes!
Australia has no virgins nor volcanoes! Nuff said!

Japan has way worse Localism than Hawaii. If you have respect, don't catch too many waves, and not kook out, you'll be fine. Give Aloha, get Aloha. Act like a jerk and you'll get pounded. ( sure that's the same around the world ).
Banz, you should do a trip to Waikiki, you'll have the best time surfing and really feel the "Aloha Spirit". ( and no 6/5/4mm wetsuit )

IMHO...
While expensive, Surf Simply in Costa Rica is the gold standard for surfing instruction. A look at the tutorials, podcasts and magazine is time well spent whether or not you decide to attend.

Spain (Andalucia), Portugal and the South of France are very nice for a start. Canary Islands, too. So you don't need to invest into a huge trip across the world. A nice place to live and work is California, too.

If I had the time and $$$ this would be my 1st choice school. Or Hawaii. I'm sure there are a lot of good schools to choose from in the land of Aloha. Good luck and have fun!

Couples Prices$7280 one week / $14,560 two weeks. As a couple you will have a private bungalow all to yourselves.

Bottom rate is USD 520 per day - that is steep and it goes up from there.

If you watch the surf simply weekly videos you will see that most people are 40-55 yr old bankers and lawyers and business owners - people who demand and can afford the best in and out of the water. It's sort of like flying first class - the other 99% of us would love to do it, but there are cheaper alternatives that still get similar results (albeit that in surfing terms those results will probably take a bit longer without the intensive surf simply training).

Depends where you're going to. For Hawaii/Waikiki, if you can find accommodations, surfing will just be $45ish for an hour group lesson ( it's like $75 for a private, which you don't need ). After the lesson you can continue on by yourself with your board as a rental for $5 an hour. 2 hours you'll be more than tired. ( and sunburned ). I can recommend some great instructors if you go Waikiki.
