Buying longboard, unsure of right length or board

Howdy,

I'm thinking of getting a longboard to add to quiver. I usually ride an 8ft mini-mal and its a good board that I can stand up on easily. I'm 6,2 and 78 kg. Just wondering what length I would need and whether people think its more fun to have an allrounder style longboard or a nose rider? Any suggestions on board length/model would be appreciated. I think im leaning more towards an all rounder style than a noserider

It really depends on you and what you want to and are able to do....being that it would be your first board over 9ft and that you're still very much a beginner, I would suggest that you lean towards a board that works in a variety of conditions for a variety of applications....once you start to define your style, learn what you enjoy and what you need from a board to fulfil those ends in the conditions that you surf in, then you'll know the answer for whether to get a performance longboard, a nose riding log, a big boy stinger, a quad moontail, single fin pintail, etc, etc, etc.

My only recommendation and one that might not be shared by all is that you get a solidly built epoxy board for your first longboard....my first board got me well acquainted with the ding boys down at the shop, put dings in the board anytime I got near a doorjamb, putting the board in or pulling it out of the car, anytime I turned around, when I sat on the board, sank the tail and found out that the board COULD touch the reef.....second longboard I'd gotten a bit less clumsy but not much....tuflite epoxy board, managed just one trip to the ding shop with that over a year and a half of owning it. Hold up well when you smash into other learners at the free for all learner breaks with boards flying everywhere.....

Seriously consider an epoxy, say 9ft and 22'' wide, reasonable thick epoxy, all rounder no nose concaves or severe rocker.
Look,at the surftech, NSP, Torq, GSI ranges lots to consider.

You will catch more waves

A freind is offering to sell me a 9,2 NSP longboard for 350. It's in good condition. I've read some reviews that say both the NSP and Torq range are good for beginner longboarders. My only concern about the NSP is that it looks very heavy (nearly 8kg) and has almost 80 litres of volume. That sounds like way too much.

The Torq sounds liek a more reasonable longboard (70 litres and only 9ft) . However, I can't seem to find nay second-hand ones so its a toss up between a 350-400 dollar nsp and a 770 brand new torq. Both seem to be very durable from reviews i've read

Get the NSP; perfect for your needs. Then go surf.....ALOT!!!

IF you decide to sell the NSP in the future, you should be able to get just about the same money for if. 80L is not too much volume for a board like this and all longboards feel heavy compared to shorter boards.............as well they should, they are bigger.

If you are in the Byron bay area then there are plenty of gumtrees to on sell if the board doesn't work. The NSP sounds good.

Funny, I was just looking at the Stewart surfboard website right before you posted the question. This is really interesting. All the Redline11 boards are 9'0" but the widths and thickness are different. Cross reference your height against your weight to find what size they recommend. First time I've seen this way with beginner, intermediate and advanced choices.

My board is 7'6" and 24 inches wide and somewhere around 4" inches thick . It is easy to catch waves with but my 8 foot board is easier however it's only 23 inches wide and less than 4 inches thick
