Postby Bodhitodd1 » Tue Nov 15, 2016 8:52 am

Hi,

I have just bought a 9'3 single fin dead kook nausea...

It currently doesn't have a fin. What size and shape would you guys recommend ?

Thanks in advance Bodhi.

A basic rule of thumb 1" per foot, I prefer cutaway type fins, but I am only an occasional nose rider.
A wider base can help , nausea looks good for you ( what a thing to say). You could go an inch up or down if it suits.

Would you steer toward a 9 or a 10 inch fin ?

One of my favorite fins is the Greenough 4-A. It also seems to be liked by those who ride the Nausea. It seems to be a modern pig shape, hope you like cross-stepping.

As for fin size, 9.5" sounds about right. You didn't say your height, weight, skill level and type of surf break.

Oopps ! just found out Trues Ames doesn't make a 9.5" any more. So I guess go with the Greenough 4-A in 9.75". If you're rich, go with the VOLAN for the cool lively flex. But if not the regular fiberglass layup is fine.

I haven't tried it, but try searching for FCS II Flow PG Longboard Fin. Sorta same (copy) shape like the 4-A, but this fin can be adjusted with out tools.

See if the surf shop near you has a fin try system, around 9.5" glass not any cheap plastic, Volan yes!

Shapers fins , have a look at the deadkooks site about fins, go and talk to the shop. :D

For what it's worth, I've got a greenough 4-a (great fin) in 8.5", 9" and 9.75". I'll take a picture later of the 9 and 9.75" side by side; the size/overall area difference is more than I expected. I have a 9'2" now that I use the 8.5" which has been enough for this board (lighter overall, thinner rails, narrower tail, lower volume longboard as compared to the longboard I had previously that I used the longer fins in).
