So, the swells have gone and conditions for much of this week and next will be like much of the off season/rainy season here....small wave days. Small days bring out the surf schools and a handful of other newbies.....business is booming apparently because there were four schools out this morning at the break, each group numbering at least 10-12people with the total well over 50 in the water. This is unheard of for a dawn patrol, but the third time in the last couple weeks it's been this way.
This is my third off season surfing here and I can't remember it being as crowded and unruly as what I've been seeing lately. Yes, has been crowded in Bali and it is getting more so, but all of a sudden it seems that it is no longer competitive when it comes to getting a wave.....people just go without giving 2 %$#@*&'s about etiquette, safety or much at all. I was out this morning and was dropped in on at least 5 times and numerous close calls with flying boards and bodies (was dropped in on by a newb getting rolled on a foamie....I took off behind the peak and as I dropped down to skirt the foam ball and make the section a body was pitched with his board sideways in front of me....just a total zoo and a mess.
*Note the flying board in "bb drop in fest 2"....waves came through and it was like surfboard fireworks with boards exploding up in the air....................on a 1-2ft day.....
Here are some pics from the net at Batu Bolong this morning....I surfed south in the bukit but our lineup resembled this one......a real sorry state of affairs and not a whole lot of fun.
