Right foot lands too much left

Postby Oldie » Mon Oct 17, 2016 9:45 pm

I am a regular footer. In my pop up i very often land with my right foot too close to the left side of the board, and then have a hard time to recover (if at all). I even do this during practice on dry land. I checked wether i overotate my hips, but that not seem to be the case. I of course look at practicing more to land in the right spot. Other than that, do you have any additional tips/ideas how to prevent that? Thanks!

Make a cardboard cutout of your board and place it on the ground. Make marks where you want your feet to go then practice popping up slowly putting your feet in the right place. Once you get that down then work on doing it faster and keep increasing the speed as you master the correct foot placement of the slower speed. If you still have trouble at a very slow speed then work at flexibility
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

If you are on a longer board the chicken wing pop up should make it easier to place your back foot properly.

Skip to 3:40 for chicken wing

Possibly your upper body is off balance (eg head goes too far back or you are standing up too quickly <- common; or your front foot isn't stable enough) and your right foot just goes back to correct your balance (stop you falling over backwards).

Or it could just be poor muscle memory that needs to be corrected in a way like Old Man has suggested. You have practiced doing the wrong thing and now you are very good at it.
