Hawaiian honeymoon

Hey all,
I just got married over the weekend and the Wife and I are honeymooning in Hawaii. We are spending 5 days on The Big Island and 5 days on Maui and we fly out in like 7 hours. A guy on my ice hockey team suggested that I just rent something instead of bringing a few boards. I've done this in Puerto Rico, and I flipped a board in Mexico while on a trip down there, so I'm convinced there are quality boards available. Does anyone have any recommendations for a quality rental service similar to http://surfboardquivers.com. I'm going to be looking for something like 6'2 x 19.5 x 2ish and probably a Longboard for the Wife.

I live on the other side of Hawaii, on Kauai. Don't know anything about board rentals on Maui or Big Island sorry, but congrats on the marriage. The Big Island has less surf for mile of coastline because it is the newest island and hasn't had time to grow reefs as much as the other islands. I have never even surfed on either island although I did body surf on Maui. Maui is the second youngest of the islands but there are plenty of surf spots. I could google surfboard rentals on the two islands but I bet you can do the same. Sorry no help but I hope you have a nice honeymooon

Thanks for the quick responses and kind words! We are sitting on the tarmac at LAX, waiting to depart. I'll ask around when I'm in town. I'm sure Maui has some good options, I've heard some board rental services deliver.

I just did a quick google and looks like you shouldn't have much problems getting boards on either island......well anyway it seems like you shouldn't but I guess it depends on where you are staying

Thanks Salty, but sadly I don't have much info on Maui and Big Island. Big Island surfing is not easy, as mentioned earlier, it's all rocky coast. There a place called Banyans and Old Airport. I did a contest in Maui at Lahaina Harbor. Launiupoko is good for beginners. Majority of breaks in Hawaii is Reef breaks, so try not to push of the bottom.

Little update half way through the honeymoon;

I haven't surfed yet, I was honestly thinking I'd be totally surf starved but this just hasn't been the case. We leave for Maui later today from The Big Island and I've got a board lined up for when we get there, so I'm sure I'll get a session or two in.

Here on The Big Island we've been staying at the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and the urge to sit by the pool and drink all day has been strong. I don't think I'd ever get sick of the buffet breakfast, it's amazing. Besides drinking, we've done a helicopter ride around the island, snorkeled with manta rays, gone zip lining and did a hiking tour that ended in a refreshing swim under some water falls. Last night we had an excellent dinner at a farm to table restaurant in the Waimea area called Merriman's. The Ahi Poke starter was amazing and I would highly recommend it.

We both are looking forward to experiencing what Maui has to offer!
