surf the wrong directiom

Postby frostless » Sat Sep 24, 2016 10:13 am

I feel like I have made some tiny progress recently, despite my still clumsy padding, bad timing and positioning. But hey now I can catch more waves than before. But I still dont know what is the right direction to go, most of the time I am still going straight or sometimes even the opposite direction like shown in this clip

So maybe I should focus more on wave reading?

First point is you are a goofy foot so pick so breaks that run as a left hander, that is your fore hand side. Site and look at a beach break like that and see where and which way the waves are running. Use that knowledge to help yourself.
If there are only righthanders ( note here right and left waves are determined when you are facing the beach from out in break)
Goofies front foot just like yours is their right foot, natural footers their left is their front foot. You are a member of that unusual group that includes Tom Carroll , Kai Otton and Uncle Jaffa. Work to develop a strong backhand too.

Your pop up, initial turn and setting of the rail looks great. Even though you may have gone the "wrong" way, take that opportunity to Turn back to the other direction. You learned to set you edge and trim, now learn how to break trim and roll your board to the opposite rail. Starts with looking away from the whitewater to the open face behind you. And even sometimes when you do go the "right" way, what happens if someone drops in or paddles in front of you ? You need to avoid or veer.
