Thanks guys and hope everything goes well with you as well Billie!

The downside for the next month is that they have also modified my shoes to stop my achillies extending too far by putting a wedge in them! While the extra few cms of height is much appreciated, it is a right pain to walk (if not already).
I also decided to flick off my old mountain bike and finally join the 650b (27.5") club and give that a whirl so at least I've got something to look forward to soon! If anyone is interested, it's a 2015 commencal meta sx essential edition. With tubeless spank wheels. I've just sent an order off to get black pedals and a red handlebar to jazz it up.

I hadn't had a bike for about 10 years and got one again last fall....I had no idea that you had wheel size choices in mountain bikes. I wound up getting the 27.5 size and have mixed feelings as it isn't nimble like my old cannonade but at the same time it is easier to get over stuff....high curbs in particular.

You ride in Bali?

Actually I saw a race down some mountains near Ubud, those guys were flying but no one had closed the road to traffic. Was almost as scary as Denpasar

I've now used it in 1ft clean to 3ft wind swept and 4ft fast and heavy close out waves. Proving to be an all round board so far given the quite low volume! I wish the rails had been a touch thinner and more refined but I'm really enjoying it.

So the day after this test, I went to a badminton training and on my third game of singles managed to snap my archiles tendon! Heard a loud pop and collapsed on the ground!

I guess my next board review will be in about 6-9months?

I've been told I'll be in crutches for 3-5 months and then rehab after that.
Considering I normally train for kickboxing, surfing, gym and mountain biking between 4-6 times a week this is going to really test me!

Keep up the good posts so I'll have stuff to read

badminton can be dangerous huh. one of the deskboys round here got a shuttle on his eye during a smash now his pupil of his left eye are large and cant see far distance anymore. and its for the rest of his life. funny how such a soft appealing sport can bring damage, you suppose to think the surf or skate does it to you and you wind up having it at some soft appealing sport( which is underestimated i guess)

A co-worker does that stuff.....wears body armor and does off road downhill rides in the mountains....he keeps threatening to take me along.... For me its just around the neighbourhood and on beach bike paths with the girls.

If I had been in a cast I'd wear red patent leather pumps if they told me that's what I had to do to be able to walk again......take is slow and get yourself fit again!

The inevitable happened and my Archillies re-tore today..

I'm now facing surgery tomorrow where they will sew the split tendons back together.
Unfortunately this will mean I'm
Back at square one with a cast, moonboot, heel wedges and re-hab all over again.

The realisation is slowly sinking in that I now probably won't surf until around May next year and run until September next year.
The worst part.. I'd booked a trip to the Philippines with my mates in November for 15 days and now I don't know if I'll be able to go. Everything is already paid for

Yeah breaking tendons sucks, they don't heal as well as bones., ,BUMMER Damn so sorry man. That totally bites the big one.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

Terrible to hear!

Just an aside.....I'm a chef and I'm wondering if the doctor has suggested any special diet to supplement your healing. Have a look online; there are dietary supplements that assist in tendon and cartilage development as well as general nutrition habits and specific food items (escargot is one) that will help your body heal faster for those specific areas.

@big H, thanks for tip and surprised no one has actually told me about that yet! A quick Google search had heaps of
Topics about specific foods to build tendon and tissues etc.

My diet my become very boring for the next month haha. Sounds like chicken, carrots, nuts, fish oil tablets, spinach and a stack of vitamin c Tablets!

Noooooo! So sorry to hear that. That's so frustrating to have a major setback when you are almost out of the woods. What happened?
