My money is on your wife to pop up and surf before you do, but hey that's cool. She'll be a good teacher and tell you to try the bigger board or maybe she'll secretly enjoy ripping while you struggle on the shortie.

Wait, someone is filming him right ? So he shouldn't be alone. And anyways, he's a proficient open ocean swimmer.

Yeah....that was among the boasts....

.....well old four boards has given us something to talk about.....I'm sore first time or two out when I take a couple weeks off like when I go on vacation....first week or so back is tough.....it's been said but he's in for a shock even in those soft conditions.

....but then you never know right?

This is one of those guys who has bullheaded determination. I think that will count for something. He is going to take a pounding and be humbled by it but will stick to it and learn from his mistakes unless he gets injured. He is gathering as much information as he can before he goes out and has formulated a plan based on that information. The question is can he adjust to the reality of the situation?
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

I think it's good too. One thing about surfing, however, is that it appears pretty easy. The difficulty level just doesn't really make itself obvious to you at first glance. Now when I watch this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENLAiBj2lfs
I sometimes think it would be fun to learn how to do that . . . for about 2 seconds and then I put the scotch back in the cupboard. I heard this guy Imagewas taking up the rings, though, so I guess it's all about living the dream.

What's everyone's guesses on whether the first response is going to say he shredded it even with no evidence?

The thing about surfing is......you need the waves too....look at that surf report; there aren't a lot of great surfers coming out of the benelux for a reason.....not a lot of top snowboarders in South Carolina either or downhill longboard skateboarders in Kansas.....

I have seen the video. My wife isnt exactly the best cameraman plus its a phone. But i can tell you im really humble from now.

So what happened ? I started with the shortboard and paddled. The paddle alone was wobbly let alone catching waves. The waves are not like the forecast said. They are 0.8 or so. But still it was enough to teach me a lesson. The only good thing about it is that i actually duckdived. During the paddling trying to catch a wave was so impossible and it made me so angry. But i had to give it to you guys. I didnt pop up on the shortboard. As soon as i popped up in the wave the board just went down in the water. Im heavy as well now. I went from 80 to 83. I need to follow a diet. But regardless that even if i was at the ideal 75 kg. Im sure i would fail just as hard.

Latef on the paddling went even better and saw progress in the paddle with the shortboard. But i had to fight my stubbornity after hopelessly trying to pop up and drown into the wated with my lite shortboard.

Then i started to think of you guys. I am so very thankfull how you guys handled me. Sometimes even like a father to his child really.

So after whining and screaming i left the water and looked at my nps 7.2. 47L is more then shortboard 30. And less then longboard 60.

So i took the road of humility and humbled myself walking with my nps into the water. Paddling went fine. I could even duckdivei even took off with no problem at all.
So myself esteem was stimulated positively.
( which is what u guys told me alll along but i didnt wanna hear it)
Then i wanted to pop off. Honestly i was so tired that i decided to do the chicken winh pop up.
I would go on my knees everytime. And then i said to myself now you have to stand period. And thats what i did. I was to much busy being happy and full focus. I went really far. I reached the coast and could feel the fins touching the sand. It dont matter.

Pitty the waves were at shore i paddled really far where the sailors were and there were only waves at shore and not into the deep. But still its something

To sum up.
I am so happy and i feel so much better having a clearer picture. Yes skateboarding helped me pop up and balance. But the steering is noooooowhere near skating. The comparison or difference is to big. It helped me be faster. But not too fast obviously.

But regardless on how i underestimated it. By hitting high i reached higher then low. And that was my intention all along.

I can paddle
I can duck dive. Still need to perfect that tho.
I got hit many times before i started timing when to duck dive. And im sure tommorow it will be back at one.

So verdict:

Ill keep it with the nps board.
The shortboard really needs bigger waves and experience together.

But ill reach you guys there ;)
Im emotional.and i have great challenges.

The camera was shittt. I am going to look for one so that tomorrow my wife can zoom in. Cause its so far for a phone. Regardless of how bad the quality i will uploaf everything the good and the bad and bloopers to. U can have it all.

This is like a reality tv show w/ all the commentaries  I'd say he wins the grand title for the beginner of the year (or decade???) I guess he's special so no surprises there. Man, the anticipation is killing me.

It's all good. For something you've got to live through it to really know what it's like. Keep trying and you'll get where you want to be. Looking forward to more updates.

The steering gets closer to a skateboard as you go faster but learning to go fast is going to take some time and actually it takes the right waves and the right positioning on the right waves. There are three main things interacting when you surf, the wave the surfer and the board. You can choose a board and you can control yourself but the ocean you can't control so you have to learn to read it and it constantly changes. In this manner it is different from skateboarding or snowboarding. There are also currents, wind, tides and other stuff in the water such as rocks or reef or kelp or other surfers and lots of other things. Yeah if you keep at it then it will all get easier after a while. Everyone who surfs went through something like what you did although those who get lessons have an easier time. But I can understand your wanting to just do it. I never got lessons myself. Now with the videos the surf instructors here might be able to give you clues about what to do next.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

Glad to hear you're humble enough to finally take some of these comments on board.
Can you upload the video that was taken? I'm sure the guys on here can give you some good pointers on it regardless of how ametuer the footage is.

Also another word of warning, don't ever ride the board until you can feel the fins in the sand- you'll risk snapping the fin box and having some costly repairs!
My ex did it to mine.. :(

What I was trying to say....6s onshore with a swell that size.....the waves were exactly like the report said. Hard to surf in that at our weight on anything other than a longboard (9'+).

Now you've done it....when will you go again? Sooner than later and you'll be better off.

You're in, you're on the journey has begun, you stopped looking at the maps and started going from A to B. You are open to the discoveries, and you'll have to face the face then you will be even further into it

It is depressing knowing that that is so occasional to have these so called best waves( worst to the hawaiians probably) i went really really deep. And only on shore there were waves. And those waves were well yeah mostly whitewash. Glad i took the nps board with me. Otherwise the journey was for nothing.

The highlight too me was that i caught a wave. And the wave took me all to the shore. And the next good wave i had to wait so long.

Also the waves here are not curvy 90 procent. It just aint fair. And its depressing

So i woke up 8 am today just to walk out looking for the waves. Went back the elevator. So i will see how to get it zoomed in.
The problem is that its the kinda beach where you cross water and then land then water then land then sea. LOL. But thats northsea huh. I will have to travel more south. Its gonna be spain or morocco. France is discriminating towards muslim women.

So uhm well we will see.

Thank you guys. Oh yeah bout the video. I gottta lot of video cut n paste to do and zoom in via personal computer. Just so that u guys can see my ugly ess in the water. Probably monday or tuesday ill upload it.

Meanwhile this is a video from before i took the car towards the beach. Let it be a small intro.
