Biarritz in November

Postby Sharps » Tue Aug 16, 2016 10:00 pm

I'm planning a trip to Biarritz area in France with my wife and young children, and would appreciate some tips! We'll be there for about 3 weeks in November. I have a few specific questions, but please share any other info you think is helpful.

-What kind of wetsuit is recommended for the area at that time? I'm used to cold (sub 10c) and tropical water (20c+), haven't surfed at the projected 15c temperature, so not really sure what to wear.

-How busy does the area tend to be with surfers that time of year?

-Trying to decide whether to bring boards or rent there. How much do board rentals cost there generally?

-Anything else?

Thanks!

Hi Sharps, welcome to Surfing Waves!

You'll need at least a 4/3 wetsuit at that time of the year. If you feel the cold you might want to invest in a thermal rashguard, or just go for a 5/3.
November is no where near as busy as it is in July and August (but the waves will be better). It will be busy at the main spots if the waves are good but there's plenty of coastline in and around Biarritz that you'll be able to get away from any crowds.
Not sure about hire, there are plenty of places to hire from. Give Google a go.
Have a great trip
Cheers,
SP

4/3 will be fine.

Board Rental starts at about 100€/week for a BIC/Foamie, a better board probably around 150€ a week. If you book for three weeks, you probably can negotiate a better price.

Thanks for your replies!

I'm thinking of taking a 3/2 because I find a 4/3 to be sufficient in Tofino's 8C - 12C water, and it's meant to be warmer 15C water in November. But let me know if you think that's foolish!

Board rentals seem expensive, might be better off bringing one or buying there.
