Boards

Postby dacsus65 » Fri Jul 29, 2016 9:47 pm

Took out a Surftech Blacktip this week, 10x24 3/8x3 3/8 longboard. My first experience with a softtop boardn unless we count that styrofoam board my Dad got me in the 70s. I liked the size but felt it was a bit narrow for me. Could just be I am stiff and not as coordinated as I was 30 years ago (shocking at 51, I know!), but I was wondering if there are any boards a bit wider in the 9'6" to 10' range. I'll be up at the shop next week to rent again and will ask them but just wanted to see what the more experienced folks here thought.

The BiC 9.4 is 27 inch wide. But it is a monster of a board. 24 3/8 is already very wide.

You want to keep a certain aspect ratio in your board to ensure it glides nicely. Don't go too wide, or you will lose speed. And you need that in New England summers lol. Also, EVERY beginner feels like their board is too narrow. So it's not as much a matter of physical conditioning as of learning the proper way to paddle and pop up.

Pm. Caero is right 24" is a wide longboard it pretty much your inherent stability or lack thereof!
If the surf is weak all boards feel less stable.... Persevere !

Thanks guys. I had a feeling it was lack of skill rather than lack of width but thought I'd ask.

Well if you are like me in my old age it is an increase in width that is the problem ....that is an increase in the width of the surfer
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.
