Damage on new surfboard.

Hey guys,

I have a question concerning some damage from a surfboard I bought. I bought a surfboard the other day and when I came home I found out the surfboard was damaged. The surfboard i bought is a torq mod fish 6'3 , epoxy material. And I was wondering if i need to repair this damage and what type of material i need to fix it!

Do you have any idea how that happened?

For me, that's pretty big to do on your own if you've never done a repair.....esp. being epoxy with eps foam which when combined with the wrong repair materials will melt and make that damage go from bad to horrible.

Take it back to the shop, show them and start a discussion. Depending on your level of involvement in the damage they might charge you anywhere from full to nothing.

If you bought it second hand, then just take it to a shop to get it fixed would be my advice.

Get some Ding Putty.( some people say it is the exact same thing they sell in automotive/marine supply stores ) It's two-colors but after you knead it, it becomes light grey. Depends on the maker, it "sets" up in like 5-10 minutes.
1) tear off any things that flaps or moves
2) sand down any square edges ( especially that crack line since it'll keep trying to run )
3) get a cup of water ready
4) cut off some putty with a utility knife ( plastic knife okay ) and knead it to it becomes uniform in color. Less is better as you can always make more
5) stuff the putty in the hole
6) then put on a final layer that conforms to the rail edge. Use a wet finger dipped in the cup to smooth out the putty.

After it hardens ( say 45 minutes ) you can sand it down if there's too much bumps. You can also cover it with rattle can spray paint.
