Getting first board

Postby Moliva18 » Tue Jul 05, 2016 4:20 am

Hey so I'm new to surfing but I'm addicted. I've taken 6 lessons and the teacher said I'm ready for regular boards. I want to get a board so I can start surfing on my own. What would be a good option that will last me awhile. I'm 5'6, surfing in North Carolina and New Jersey so the waves aren't very big. Thanks.

Do a forum search for 'first board'; there will be a lot. You will want a long board, 8ft or longer

Possible to ask your teacher what he/she recommends? That is what I would do since they know you and been with you in the water and know what conditions / breaks you will go to in your development.

I should have added, once you have read the other threads, for sure come back with any questions you have or boards you are thinking about etc

Thanks I ended up getting an 8'0 after one more lesson when I did good on one.
