Any surfers that also skate?

I grew up on Ohau and surfed all my life until my mom got married to an Army dude and moved us to Georgia when I was 16. I soon after started skating and have been hooked ever since. There's a new park in Athens Georgia called SPOA and it is nice. 12' bowl with 5 feet of vert, 10' tall over vert, 25' long snake run, plenty of narly trani to ride. If you are ever in Georia (sorry if you are) then you should check out the park.

I got a dranage ditch in my front yard that has about four foot sides that I turned into a snake run/half pipe, I made the sides more vert and added coping in places, and the cool thing is I get this infinatley long left going when water's running down itbecause of some cement I had left over that I formed into a flow rider looking thing.

it's only six inches high though...

Just cruisin' the fourms and saw this, yeah I love to skate now. Surfings better, but man I love to go out to the new park grindline made in our town and rip it up. We got several good street spots too.

Chicago double truck precision on Hyde boots. I found them in a thrift shop for about $7.00.

Been doing free-style dance on roller skates since I was six -- I'm 57, and damn good on wheels. *G*

Ahhhhhhh, but that's "roller skates" !!!

My first skate board was in 1962. It was literally, no exaggeration, a 20" plank off the end of an fruit crate with "no truck" kid's sidewalk skate and narrow steel wheels nailed to the bottom. Very crude, but part of riding was controlling the skid on the steel wheels.

Then it went to "single truck" (one cushion) and fibre wheels that were wider. They shredded on asphalt/concrete, but more traction than steel wheels. Narrow trucks, boards ran 20". I made one in wood-shop, 20" long, about 6" wide, flat, 3/4" thick -- stiff. Narrow 6" wide trucks. It was white oak from a packing crate. I still have it.

The "hot trick" was a "180" -- bring the board up on rear wheels and "swap ends." Also, "hang ten" and riding backward.

Skate-boarding was a crime even back then. We skated on parking lots, no riding rails, jumps, etc. But we got kicked off the lots all the time. Rental Cops thought we were crazy. -- And we were, crazy about skateboards.

I used to skate, back when boards were fat and wheels were huge!

I'm talking back in the days of 'The Bones Brigade' and Animal Chin!

I'm almost done with my new surf stick, I'll post pics when I'm done with it...

48"x8.25", 3/8" thick with four layers of six deck and three four bottom, working on getting better trucks and wheels for it...

Moving ahead to the current era. I have an MTb Mountain Board. Pneumatic tires. And a couple "wings" with a Dakine harness -- 3.6 metre, and 7.6 metre Ozone. And a buggie too, Peter Lynn. But that's kites and buggies.

I suck at it, but it's a hoot! Seems like I should be able to ride the mountain board on trails, but it mostly works on the beach, with a "wing" or kite.

me and some friend used to skate in the car park of this factory at night...the security guards there were really cool and they would only let me and my friends go there. we build some grind boxes and kickers etc and we hid them in a bush so we could skate them in the carpark at night coz it was lit up.

after about a year The lights broke and the ramps got stolen.

:(
