My wetsuit got ripped

Postby chrisdot » Mon Apr 04, 2016 2:43 am

Hi there, I figured I have around 3 fingers big hole in my 3/2 wetsuit, just above the right knee. It's on the stitch. How do I fix it? Bring it to the tailor? Maybe surf shop? Or do it myself? Should it be just stitched, or glued also?

Take the wetsuit to the shop where you bought it. Most wetsuit companies have a return for repair policy.
If it was within the warranty period and the hole is from a fault. Then it may be fixed or replaced free or for just a little.
If not the shop may know a repairer!

If it's not under warranty, you can get some Neoprene Queen and fix it yourself. It's good to have a tube around anyway. Check out youtube for instruction videos.

As I recon I bought the wetsuit last year around May. I don't have any receipt for it. Although I called the shop and they said to send the wetsuit to the manufacturer and they will fix it as long as it's <1 year old. The guy said also that most or all of the manufacturers do warranty repairs. Shop won't handle the repair, shop would do exactly the same - send to the manufacturer.
Have you got any experience with that route?

You should be fine sending it in, but without proof of purchase, not sure if they'd honor the warranty. It was fairly simple process for me, luckily it was Quiksilver and they are located close by so i dropped it off myself. They actually decided it wasn't worth the cost of shipping the suit for repair(cz neck panel was fraying and coming apart) so they let me keep it and gave me a credit for the original purchase price. Definitely cool of them to make it right, but truthfully, having a suit fall apart within a year is horrible.
