Your right for the most part about our surf size. I'm going off what the division odd marine fisheries is saying on my VHF radio. Most days when I fish it's 2-3 feet and rarely 6 but I would say we see 5 to 6 footers more than a few times a year. There are massive sandbars here that can cause some better waves but nothing (not even close) to the surf on the west coast. I probably won't be out in the five to 6 footers anytime soon anyway. DMF goes off a consecutive average in sets of 3.

The offshore swell size is not the same as the wave size... but that's a whole other topic to talk about... for now, here's a rough guide -

...and even that doesn't show it very well. I'd add about half as much again, but the aussies tend to measure their waves differently to a lot of the world. When a surfer refers to a "6ft wave", they don't mean a wave as tall as you are... they mean BIG. :shock:
You'll probably find me surfing, but if not, I'll probably be in the photography studio
