The real trick is can you use it. If you can't catch waves you aren't learning to surf. A board isn't going to make you a better surfer even if it is the best board in the world. It's time spent in the ocean catching waves that makes you a good surfer. Each board has pluses and minuses for each surfer but it's different for each surfer. The trick is to find one that allows you to learn at your current skill level in the waves you are surfing. This is why I like custom made surfboards for myself. They are made for me at my age/fitness/skills/weight waves I surf.
