So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

If you like to look at pictures "Surf" by John Severson is pretty good. It has small sections to read as well about Johns career as a surfer and surf photographer/movie maker. Another one with lots of pictures is "The History of surfing" by Matt Warshaw and the "Encyclopedia of Surfing" by Matt Warshaw are pretty good
