My case it was related to not drinking pocari sweat (electrolyte sport drink local brand) before hand as well as stress on the legs which I'd not yet developed my legs into being used to yet....I've been skateboarding a lot for the last couple of months, stretching more, have a set stretching routine I do before going in now that includes calves, hammys and achilles among other muscles....combination of all as well as being aware to relax my legs while sitting on my board rather than constantly stabilising with them seems to have sorted the issue and I've not gotten cramps since. Cheers for the list of potassium rich foods....on days where I feel run down (prone to cramping and prone to being, well.....tired :lol:) I eat a banana for the twin pronged benefits of energy and cramp protection.

I haven't had any cramps lately......must be eating the proper balance of K+ Na+ Mg++ Ca++ etc.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

Its around balmy 12/13 degrees C in the ocean , south west coast of Norway right now .....lovely ( no hoods or gloves required) !
As for cramp ....... always get it in right calf when getting cold, stretching keeps it at bay , cramp increases with tiredness.
Also after surfing in the evening right calf muscle twitches like crazy !!! had it for years.
I am a big coffee drinker and probably not getting enough fluids when it gets cold here.

Try an isotonic sports drink....has made a big difference for me and now I refuse to go in the water without hydrating with iso first. Only had a few swallows left the other day and thought that I'd chance it....legs cramped up about one hour in and I had to call the sesh....

Hello dear friends. Nice thread. Leg cramp is a very serious problem for all of us. It’s really a very painful disease. Drinking more water is good and it relaxes you for some time but, I have found a better solution for it. Yes, friends, my mom had a leg cramp problem during the last five months and after our family doctor’s suggestion she used a specially formulated mineral bar named as Limb Bar. And now she got relaxed. You should also try it. Hope it will help you to relief your pain.

Anyone know what I can do about this, foods that might help, supplements or medications other than muscle relaxants (was thinking more along the lines of asprin).

I had the same problem. I think you should drink water with some magnesium powder.

I experimented with wearing the leash below my knee for easier cross stepping but the pressure cramped my leg every time. No problems on the ankle.

Rest is the answer. i can relate to that. your body is telling you to stop.
if the cramp is that kind that comes out of nothing: stretch a lil before going. like lea brasky (lovely lady)
stretching and warming up should be performed when you wake up and before going into the waters (2times)
because there may be a long timeline between the 2.
