is this a good learning board??

Postby KevDawg » Thu Aug 04, 2005 11:45 pm

Hey everyone.
I went surfing for the first time last weekend and rented a 9ft soft top board. I want to buy a good beginners board but I dont have much to spend on it, I saw this on ebay, do you think this is ok to learn on for just a few months?
Heres the board:

Thanks in advance!

Do this, chief:

Look around for used boards at your local shop(s). Going with that board you will be stuck with it when you "outgrow" it and it will be a waste of money in the long run. Invest in a longboard or funboard to learn on and you will still be able to use it when you learn to surf.

If I wanted to get my daughter into surfing when she reaches the age of 4 and I saw one of these for about £20 (c$35) I might be tempted, but I doubt it!!

Don't go for a soft top unless you are running a surf school.

Don't go for a shortboard anyway - go for something 7'5 or over

They'll be lucky to get $149 for this!!

i hear u bro, im a little tight on the budget either, i was actually tempted to buy a foamie, but i just kept on saving until i came up with enough money to buy me a fiberglass funboard, it maybe a little pricey but it's worth it, they will last and they have good resale value(if u wanna sell or trade it in the future)..like they said, foamies are just a waste of money!

yea dont get a soft top. i bought one as my first board and its a huge waste of money. and the transition from to a shortboard sucks. its like starting all over kinda. If you in the so cal area, check out Val Surf in Valley Village or their outlet in Valencia. they have tons of used boards.

You will outgrow the foam board in 3 weeks or less.
Get a fiberglass board.

I sell my funboards for $330 if you are local to so cal let me know and I can set you up.

That's what I thought.

There is also 'Surfing Legend' - I don't know if that's even higher?

I think PapaWoolacombe is one!!
