Last minute surf trip, where would you go?

I can leave tomorrow or Tuesday. Can get anywhere within 5 or 6 hours flight. Costa Rica? Hawaii? Puerto Escondio are the three I can think of.
Pros:
Costa Rica. I know there are consistent head high waves.
Hawaii. Seeing friends.
Puerto. My brother is there.

Cons.
Costa Rica. Kinda over it.
Hawaii. Might drown.
Puerto. Not the season.

If you had a free ticket of up to $500.00, were in California, and could go surf anywhere as long as you were back by Valentine's Day, where would you go?

Northshore Hawaii is 16 to 22 feet. Southshores a bit small. But if you get there soon enough, you can watch the Volcom Pipe pro in person.
