Attach Beanie To Wetsuit

Postby runnerguy » Wed Jan 13, 2016 12:39 am

I got a neoprene beanie and it has grommets on it. Was wondering if there is something I can buy to attach it to my wetsuit? Or should i just use a piece of fishing line.

Ripcurl makes a wetsuit that has a detachable hood with grommets, what brand is the beanie?

Whatever you do, DO NOT use fishing line, if the beanie comes off the line will be line a cheese cutting wire around your ears or a garrotte around your neck! Stupid idea

It offers a lanyard , depending on where and how it attaches. = maybe!

This might work, but it could also mess up your wetsuit. Try it at your own risk. Here goes. See if you can find a rivet/grommet tool that will create a grommet on the back collar of your wetsuit. Something like this http://www.harborfreight.com/grommet-pl ... 66707.html Buy a heavy duty shoestring and loop through the grommets. Another option. There's a tailor in my area who surfs and repairs wetsuits. I'm sure if you could find somebody like that they might be able to modify your wetsuit with some stitched grommet openings. That's a lot a trouble though. It might be easier just to buy a light hood with a chinstrap.

Runner,
That's a nice beanie. I was going to suggest using a chain, but learned this story from Westerly:

"I tied a cord from my hat to my wetsuit zipper back in my prone surfing days. As I tried to duckdive a large set wave, my hat ripped off my head and completely unzipped my wetsuit. Now I was floundering in the impact zone wearing a big ballon filled with freezing cold water."

I suggest some rubber stripe. The type they use to stop bleeding. Or u can cut one from old wetsuit or booty. If u don't have any u may ask a rental company.

Furthermore, put it on your chin not your throat. I use dawn patrol by rip curl. The picture shows the throat fixation but I prefer the chin. Although higher risks of losing the Hood it is much more comfortable. And the risks are not that high. The head form does not allow the hood fall off completely. Never lost the hood after months of surfing in it. It fell back on my shoulders several times but not forwards. And it floats quite well to find the hood after its falling off.

I guess that my advice was not clear. You may consider fixing the hat to your head under the chin. Not to the wetsuit.

Hello,
Why not try combining a grey cuffed beanie with a stylish suede jacket and black jeans. Due to the simple grey colour your hat won’t clash with the bright tan of your jacket. Instead it will create uniformity throughout the look as it will connect with the dark of the black jeans. Finish the look off with a pair of black Doc Martens for a great smart casual style.
