Transition from foamie to shortboard.

Currently I am surfing a 7'6 foamie, and have a surftech 5'10 shortboard that I don't currently use, and I am wondering when the right time to transition from foamie to shortboard would be. I'm 13, live in Maine, and have been surfing since around august. I'm not that good yet, but I surf almost everytime there's a swell, and I'm constantly improving. So far I can drop into around 4-5 ft waves, ride across them, and almost bottom turn. So that's about it, and any feedback would be appreciated.

You can start thinking about going down in size AFTER you can bottom turn going backside on your 7'6".
