Indonesia surfing

Postby Theriderdotcom » Mon Jan 11, 2016 7:18 pm

Hey Guys,

One of my goals this year is to improve my surfing as I have an Indonesia surf trip booked next July,

Im an intermediate surfer though I've never got a complete barrel. I've got many closeouts but never a really good one that I could come out clean.

Do you have any tips or crucial skills you think I should work on to be in the best surfing shape for Indo. With that, I mean what are the crucial skills I should be very good at to thrive at indonesia.

First tip, do not take he first wave of the set. Wipeout and each successive wave will plaster you!

Only time to take first wave is where you see the others behind are bigger and meaner, then survival will require you to ride the first one!

Nice spot Telos area enjoy and surf as much as you can , the improvement you get in good waves will amaze you

Nice thanks ! Do you have any technical tips ? Like for pop ups, take offs, barrels especially - my sole objective on the trip will be to get barreled.

Hahahahaha....you're not kidding....make the drop or you're in for a rough couple of minutes taking the first.....2 and three are usually meaner, but at least they are winding down after that....

Tips would be to surf spots with enough depth in the break zone to allow for bad judgements without being too penal....paddle hard, get up quick, bring your lungs.....

Interestingly enough , the more power and speed the more stable your board becomes for pop ups.

Angled take offs help, do not focus on barrel riding, focus on riding the wave as completely as possible.
Focus on generating power and speed from your turns focus on down the line surfing.

The Telos area has lots of full blooded wall to play on, Indonesian walls are great to get you basics strong, then maybe barrels will follow.

Genuine barrel riding is an advanced skill of subtle reading and adjusting to the changing wave face and foam ball !
