Ok well how do I not pearl every time I go on a bigger wave. I put my weight pretty far back but the nose still dives right in.

Scooting back only makes the problem worse because you lose paddle power. On a LB you need to paddle your ass off to get in really early and avoid a steep drop. Angling the take off helps too, or you can do a mid face turn on the drop on a larger wave. This morning was really shore-breaky with jacked up double ups and close outs because of the high tide....not logging waves although some guys were out on LBs.

What Yummy said, do not slide to the back of the board to avoid pearling!
Paddle like you want to catch the wave, angled take offs help heaps.
Smart paddling with good timing works the best! It is a learned skill.
Pulling back immediately puts you in a steeper position and if you take off there the pearly is almost a certainty.
You paddle position should have the nose of the board not more than two inches above the water on flat paddle( at that point you would maximum glide to each stroke) further back think snowplough and loss of speed and glide.

Commitment not hesitation is the thing, do not be afraid of wipeouts !

Ok I'll work on that today. I'm determined to be able to do this so I won't quit. Looks to fun to give up.

Time to post this again.

If our big guys can surf as a barrel in a barrel who needs airs!

BTW Uncle Jaffa is a 200lber

This guy surfed a break on Kauai (Cannons). I just heard about him from my brother. Apparently he was drunk driving and got in an accident with a parked car and then drove his car to the police station with his head sticking out the window because the hood and airbag obstructed his view. On his way he sideswiped a car and had is forearm torn off. He continued on to the police station and then proceeded to threaten the police and ambulance drivers. I am sure he isn't surfing a short board anymore if he is surfing at all.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

True that! I haven't heard any more about him since that.

Try this calculator, you can probably find a good "domesticated' board that fit your weight and abilities.
