Greco surfboard - buying my 1st board

Postby Nalu » Sun Aug 16, 2015 5:39 am

Hi, I'm wondering if this board here would be good for me? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003LU ... g=surfe-20

It'll be my first time surfing, not including surfing on my sister's board some when I was little. I've heard about how funboards are good for beginners so that's why I was considering that board (and it's also a decent price).

I'm female, 23 years old, about 5'3 and about 110 lbs.
As for type of waves, I'm on the northeast coast of Florida. I generally go to the Ponte Vedra beach.
Fitness level: I'm quite active and athletic. Especially when I'm at the beach, I swim and boogie board all day long without tiring out.

Thanks! :D

If that 8'0" Greco board ( $399.00 retail ? ) is going to cost you $280.00+, it'll be cheaper ( about half the price ) to find a Costco and buy a 8'0" Wavestorm. 8'0" and thick is more on the Mini-mal - Mini-tanker range. You'll grow out of it, but you'll have a fun safe time learning on it.

By the way, fun boards are NOT good for beginners. Funboards are better compared to a Shortboard for a beginner.

Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for the advice! :D I'll get the 8'0 Wavestorm board then. My mom actually recommended it to me before, mainly because of the low price, but I thought I read that they weren't good boards. Seems I was wrong about that and about funboards! It's very confusing being a newbie to surfing lol.

Hopefully I'll be going to Costco next week and getting my 1st board! Not sure when I'll be able to go to the beach, hopefully next month, but in the meantime I'll be doing some researching on surfing so I won't be completely clueless when I get there lol. I feel like I'll be able to pick it up really quickly (based on past experience with other things) but I still want to read up on some tips all the same. I'm glad I found this forum, it looks very helpful :D

Thanks! :D

Well I'm not sure what to do about a board now because I talked with a Costco employee and they said they're all sold out and won't get anymore back in until December. :( I'm going to check though next time we go to Costco. It just seems crazy they wouldn''t be selling them now during the summer months but will be in December. I mean I guess they're a popular Christmas present item but they've got to sell lots during the summer too!
