longboard to shortboard

Postby Hugo » Mon Jul 27, 2015 10:15 pm

Hey Guys, I'm new to this forum.
I'm from Portugal and I have been surfing for 3 years now. I started using an old 9'3 in the pink look a like, and now I use a 9'0 in epoxy.
I preferred the feel I got surfing the 9'3, but it broke on the nose a few months ago. I tried to repair it , but it is now tooooo heavy and I dont feel the same anymore. I like the 9'0 but I think its too thin for me, when I'm paddling the board gets sunk underwater. I'm a big guy 1,88m and 105kg. I thing I should get a 9'6 or bigger but they are very expensive :(
So I was thinking of cutting the 9'3 to a small single fin old school board, but I dont now how to do it or if I should do it. What do you guys think?

I'd sell Both boards and look for a bigger longboard secondhand. Doesn't answer your question really other than I wouldn't start a crafts project to get a board that I enjoyed riding; I think it would be really hard for myself to cut down and reshape a board so that it actually felt balanced and surfed well and if I paid someone else that money would be better served towards a new or new for you secondhand board. My 2 cents to the fund.

That's exactly my ride....epoxy tuflite 9'6" x 23 x 3.2" more or less, modern rockered iand I love it. Changed from a more traditional longboard with less rocker and am glad I did; seems to work better in a wider range of waves as the nose stays up easier on steeper drops....I'm 84kg and 185cm btw.
