Best surf spot in England in August?

Postby SpivoTeam » Thu Jul 09, 2015 1:19 am

Hey guys, new here, I'm going to be in England mid August and I want to know where the most reliable/best surf spot is. I'm willing to go pretty much anywhere on the Island. My surf level is intermediate.

In August in the UK, nowhere is reliable. That's the top time of year for flat spells.
But far and away your best bet is the southwest, down in Cornwall (north coast). It'll be crowded with holidaymakers, but the further west you go, the more likely you'll find a wave in summer.
You'll probably find me surfing, but if not, I'll probably be in the photography studio

Thanks! I was afraid of that. That's actually the spot I was looking at, looks decent at the moment on MagicSeaweed.

School holidays in August mixed with THE most popular holidaying location in the UK means EXPENSIVE accommodation and unlikely swells.
I hit North Devon as though still stupidly busy it is slightly less so and easier to get in and out of.
Bare in mind that parking for the day at the beach will be around £7 - the beaches wil be busy...look for the bigger beaches such as Woolacombe in Devon or Watergate Bay in cornwall...as then you can take a 15min stroll down the beach past all the people packed in.

As for swell....more thank likely it will be a wind swell floppy chop...but that's most of our surfing anyway!
Yeah, the last couple of weeks have been STUNNING down the SW....but as Jaffa said....it's not August...AND that was a nice freak period that I missed out on.

its the UK...suggestion....have a BIG board.

EDIT: - West Scotland? open to the Atlantic...don't know what the swell is like there in summer but it will be STUNNING and quieter than the south west!
