generation gap terminology

Postby waikikikichan » Tue Jun 23, 2015 11:20 am

Just saw a FB posting on things kids growing up in the 90's would understand, like Nokia phones and dial-up internet connection. Then I saw a program on TV about the older generation using different terms and gestures. So on the heels of OMS's post about surfing terminology and how names for the same maneuver have changed, here's a question . How many of you younger generation know what " rolling up the windows " means in surfing terms ?

I am new to all this so I don't....but I did own cars that had handles for windows, so it begs the question how many of the younger generation know what rolling has to do with closing windows.....I made the hand gesture to roll down the window the other day to my daughter, a precious 6 years old, who at the time was in the back of her mother's car on the way to school....I stood outside the window and kept winding my hand around in a circle....my wife saw it and told my daughter to put the window down, Daddy had something to say....window came down and the first question was "Daddy, what are you doing with your hand?" :)

"Rolling up the windows" usually happens on a steep late back side take-off. It's when the riders starts to fall back and his arms start spinning backwards to try to recover his balance.

It's not a bad comment, but one that states the viewed rider was trying his best in a hairy moment.
