Help with board selection.

Postby rpatton » Sun Jun 21, 2015 5:43 am

Hey all. I am new to forum and a relative beginner in surfing. I'm looking to buy about a 9 ft longboard and ran across this one I think looks really good and is in my budget. I don't know very much about dimensions and what is good for what. I was wondering if you guys could check out the pictures and let me know what kind of longboard this would be good for. Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the world of longboard learning , the board is a pretty standard square tail 9ft board, what width, thickness etc and even the brand is indistinguishable from the photo. Also how many fins, fixed fins or fin systems?
We also need to know your dimensions too, like height and weight! The size of the board would cover most weights up to about 200lbs or about 90kg, unless it is an ultra performance longboard (don't think so from picture).

The board as I see it good basic learning model, at your level of learning probably nothing better.

Most likely it's a single fin from the looks of the tail. However, the tell tale sign is the "thru-the-box" leash rope. Another thing, if my eyes are focusing right, is the mid deck patch for knee paddling. Nothing wrong with a single fin, but usually single finned, classic outlined noseriders have less nose rocker and more tail kick. It'll be harder to turn ( requiring you to do more a drop knee pivot turn ), which are hard for beginners to do.

If you get it cheap enough, it'll be a keeper. But I would get a 2+1 fin set up, so you can try different variations.

Yeah I actually thought I put up more pictures. It is a seafarer 9'3 longboard. I do not know the exact dimensions.
