Beginner Question

Postby devduck1990 » Tue Jun 09, 2015 6:01 pm

Hello all, I am just getting into surfing and I am in the process of looking for a used board and came across a 7'10" fun shape on Craigslist that looks to be in pretty good shape. It has a single fin setup and has a small ding towards the rear center section of the board that has been repaired. I won't know how smooth or how quality the repair is until I get a chance to look at it this Friday. Anyways, I weigh 230Lbs and am 5' 10" and will be surfing mostly in Galveston TX in the small mushy ankle to knee high stuff with the occasional storm swells. I was wondering if this would be a good board for me as a beginner with very little experience. All information and opinions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Beginner, 230lb, ankle-high mush... 7'10 will be too small.

In fact, a 7'10 funboard would probably be too small for someone your size on tiny waves no matter how good they are. Even in the long run, you're likely to want a longboard. Go big.
You'll probably find me surfing, but if not, I'll probably be in the photography studio
