So you have a generic fin that maybe a tiny bit smaller width wise at the base then authentic Futures. Try DTC's advice for shimming, wax paper on one side.

Haha yeah I couldn't remember myself Iancao what the idea about wax and fins was, I just remembered I'd read something somewhere about the two! Just goes to show that speaking up on this forum really gets you somewhere!! Loads of info that can benefit thanks to the good ppl at SW

Thanks Waikiki I'll give it a go, will post those jordy smith fins too so you can tell me what you think of them too, just for kicks :)

What do I think of those Jordy fins ? I doesn't matter what I think, it matters how it feels to you when YOU are riding with them. I can say they're lighter and stiffer than your plastic ones. But when you tap the reef or scrape them on the pavement, they "tear up" more than plastic. Plus they make your wallet a lot lighter.

Yeah I doubt I'll spend my hard earned just to discover how they feel at the moment. The have a middle of the road stiffness/flex rating. I was more Interested in if you thought they'd be too big/too small for a 185lb surfer of my level?!

I have had the same issue with various fins in futures and single fins. I start with masking tape on both sides and try it; if there is still play I remove the madking tape and go with duct tape. Fit the fin in the box and razor off the exposed tape where the fin meets the box edge. Makes for a solid fit with no play or wiggles. Can't take credit for this; googled it up on the net....works like a charm and most importantly the shimming is exactly the same on both sides. Hope this helps.
