2nd surf board

I need help finding my second surfboard.
I have been using a foam Wavestorm (from Costco) - Length: 8’0” Width: 22 ½” Thickness: 3 ¼”.
I am ready to get a new, smaller board.
I am 6 foot 2 and weigh 180 pounds.
I surf on slow rolling waves, and steep fast waves in Malibu (Malibu First Point, Zuma Beach, County Line)
I was thinking about either getting a funboard or a mini mal (maybe a 7s cog or a fourth chili bean).

I would go with a funboard, because you will discover that there are quite significant differences between a foam board and a 'normal' board. So maybe a 7ft6 funboard of some kind. Or you could go with something like the 7S Superfish of the same size.

Nope, you need help getting your first surfboard. A Costco foamie doesn't count.

At 6'2, an 8ft mini-mal would suit you. Even though you've been surfing an 8' softboard, a 'real' board will feel much smaller and faster. You could go down a touch, maybe to around 7'6–7'10, but don't go any smaller yet.

I would suggest a funboard/mini mal. But if you really didn't want one of them, for some reason, then the superfish is a board that a lot of people have bought as their second board. It really depends on how comfortable you are on your current board - if you are catching green waves and doing bottom turns confidently, then you could go with a superfish. If you are still on white water or really struggling with catching waves (nose diving, missing waves) then definitely the funboard.

Another factor is frequency of surfing - the more frequent (eg weekly+) the more likely a superfish will be ok

Everyone should have a Paipo in their quiver!! Keep it trad'. You'll be stoked over what you can achieve in the smallest of surf whilst still having a lie-in!!

I've just come back from the Canaries, and whilst out there I decided to take in the local waves (thoroughly recommend Fuertaventura, west of Corralejo) Whilst making my choice from the school quiver I spotted a 5'9" Alia. Solid wood, slicker than the Torrey-Canyon (if anyone remembers that?) Had a great couple of days on the water. Waves not huge, but enough for a old git like me. Suffice to say that I'm smitten and the next board that Grampy Teds surf shed churns out is definitely going to be an Alia (gonna make mine hollow, though) When you're considering your next board, give a thought towards a Trad' Alia. From my own experiences it would make an excellent additon to your quiver, even if it's not your first choice in the waves.
