A recent altercation I had.I've been surfing for a number of years, and I'm riding a short board. I recently moved to Santa Monica and was surfing Venice peer for the past few weeks. Today I had a bad experience. This is what happened. I took off on a left, bottom turned up to the lip and was on the way down..(.the hit up top wasn't that good so I lost some speed) and on the way down I ran into a guy who was paddling out. It wasnt at the bottom of the wave so I wasn't going too fast. Anyway. I immediately apologized. I just didn't see him and couldn't adjust in time to avoid him. After seeing to see if he was ok he starts to swear and come at me. He swing and I ducked into the water. He hit the top of my head. After the people on the peer saw and told him to stop he started cursing at them too. Older guy in mid 50s I'm guessing. Paddled out towards him to apologize again. He continues to swear at me and telling his friends probably a false encounter of the situation and in turn they are calling me a kook and to learn to surf elsewhere. Its not good to hit someone. I apologized on multiple accounts. Even though I think I technically had the right of way according to etiquette. But there is no need to try and punch someone...especially someone half your age, and in much better shape. I don't know. It detours me from going to surf there again.

He was in your way. One of the most important rules of surfing is to stay out of the way of the other surfers who are already riding waves. I realize this is not always possible but you shouldn't be paddling out where the waves are being ridden.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

thantthein,
sounds like the guy was in your way and proved to be a dumb azz. Too bad his clenched fist did not contact your board's rail. Then he'd have a deserved owie. By the way, I don't like surfing many places around LA and Orange Co. because these areas are ripe with idiots like this.

Not technically - completely and utterly. You had right of way.
You'll probably find me surfing, but if not, I'll probably be in the photography studio

A second surfer on a shortboard dropped in and took off right on the edge of the crumbling section. The first surfer surfed beneath the second surfer, then went up the wave and slammed into him to knock him off. The first surfer carried on down the line, while the second surfer wiped out pretty heavily.

The first surfer was about 50 and about 110kgs.
The second surfer was 11 and about 30kgs in a wetsuit.

Well done sir, you have established your position in the line-up, which is the biggest d!ckhead in the water :yearght:

That's well out of order!! And deliberately agressive towards a youngster. I'll bet he wouldn't have done that to a proper grown-up :ninja: . If he had, to the wrong person, he might now be waxing his board with a toothbrush  if you catch my drift?!
