Needles on Cowells

Postby 954worldexplorer » Mon Mar 30, 2015 1:34 am

I've been reading about the issues they've been having in Santa Cruz with needles lying around and trash all over. Has the city taken any steps to remove those needles, I know Ratboy got involved. I was just thinking damn stepping on those dirty, possibly HIV infested needles would not be the look after a good day of surfing.

The problem of needles on beaches is one of medical waste disposal. The solution is to find the source and stop them. Catching HIV from needles on a beach is only possible if they were just used and left on the beach which would be a different problem from needles washing down stream or to the beach from medical waste dumped in the ocean. Seems to me I recall the issue of needles at Santa Cruz was from junkies in a park upstream from the beach....or was that another California beach area?
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

It's from junkies leaving them all over.

http://www.ksbw.com/news/central-california/santa-cruz/drug-needles-close-santa-cruz-beach/24415682well this news blurb says it was from junkies upstream from the beach and the needles were being swept downstream and deposited on the beach.

In another news item they have started sifting the beach to eliminate the needles and other trash as a solution till they can get the junkies under control. But seems to me I heard Surfrider or someone is trying to get the junkies out of the park where they are throwing the needles into the stream. Surfrider also does beach cleanups
