A friend wants to surf!

Postby Surftone » Mon Mar 02, 2015 5:33 pm

hey guys,

i have a buddy that wants to learn to surf. He doesn't have a lot of time but is eager to learn. Can you recommend anything online that could teach him how to surf or help him prepare?

https://surfing-waves.com/learn-to-surf.htm

This website itself has some nice lessons, that will help him have an idea of what to do and know what mistakes he might be doing. Reading stuff about surf related subjects (how boards work, how their design affect it, how waves form) could help too, at least for me it was fun reading about all those things while I couldn't surf :)

The rest is practice!

Swimming is good exercise to prepare for surfing. Practice popping up prior to surfing but make sure he learns it correctly with the right form. The instructions at the top are great. If there are problems ask here about it.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

Hey, wait! Is this like, "I have a friend that likes this girl. How do I get her to like him?" All the while, there simply is no friend.

Surfing should really be called paddling since you spend 90% of your time paddling back to get another wave. Work on swimming, pull ups, front delt raises with weight for no more than 10 reps, run stairs, body squats and box jumps. These will get your muscles the strength you need. Your diet is even more important, eat clean and get that protein!

Coach Riggs,
The best surfers are the best paddlers.
