I absolutely hate it when I was a kid, parents forced me to take swimming lessons. My swimming coach was a very mean lady. She pushes me to my limit. I remember doing 20 laps of front stroke and was gasping for air. The last few laps I was cheating and when she found out, she forced my head in the water and I remember I was in tears. I was so scared of going to swimming lessons but at the same time I really got good at it.

For longer term, crossfit is probably pretty good for surfing. It gets some negative reviews for a number of reasons, such as
I might try and wake up for 9am crossfit foundation course on a Sunday.... I think I'll give it a try, if I find it too risky. Then I'll do something else. I think it's as you said it all depends on the trainers ability.

First week was horrible, gale force wind overhead to double overhead waves. 2nd and 3rd week got better and better. Clean glassy waves. It felt like I was improving everyday. I got more confident and felt like I was catching waves that I previously couldn't. I think I also caught the biggest wave ever. Then I got depressed when I got home and saw the videos that my gf took. If I didn't know it was me, I would say the guy in the video is a really bad surfer and probably only been surfing a few months...
I'll probably upload the video tomorrow...
