Postby ocsurfer » Tue Jul 29, 2014 9:01 pm

im going on a surf trip in two weeks. i noticed that one of my fin boxes was
cracked - the center fin of my thruster on my shortboard. its the rear box of
an FCS setup. see pictures - orangish section

should i get this repaired before going or does it look ok?

The crack looks like it has happened because the grub screw has been over tightened and has levered due to fin pressure on the plug or angulation in tightening.
Is that split present in any of the other plugs?
The plug in the board looks well sealed all around. No problem there.
If that crack were to fail further you could lose a fin but that is about all.
The repair would be replacing the plug.

As uncle Jaffa said the worst that could happen is you lose a fin but even this is unlikely as the other box is crackless?
I would leave it be.
