Budget Travel

Postby rileywalker10 » Sun Jul 06, 2014 12:26 am

Hi there,
I'm looking to do a trip over summer. Unfortunately I can't get away over winter due to my holidays being over summer (18th of December - 18th of January). I have a month off, and want to spend a minimum of two weeks over seas, preferably three or four. i have an ABSOLUTE MAXIMUM budget of $3000 (Australian) Including flights. I have looked into the Solomons, Tonga, Samoa, New Cal', Papua new guinea and off season Indo. Off season Indo looks to be a bit unpredictable? The others are quite pricey as-well. I am an intermediate to advanced surfer. Mainly i want to avoid the crowds. So if someone could offer some advice on where to go and how to do it as cheap as possible, that would be great! if anyone is interested in tagging along or letting me tag along that would be awesome!

Cheers, Riley!

By the time you fly out of Australia at that time of year it will cost you probably $1000 - $1500 even to Bali. Doesnt leave much for the rest of the trip. If you want to avoid crowds, then you have to chose one of the following

- not very good, hence people dont go there
- exclusive and expensive eg Maldives or PNG resorts (PNG is cheaper),
- just generally out of the way or hard to get to - can be expensive to travel there. However, there are some places around, including in Indo, which take a lot of time to travel to but arent overly expensive. Whether they have surf at that time of year you will have to look at

The good places in Bali or wherever are generally pretty popular

You can always just go down to Sth Coast NSW if you are on the E Coast. Yes there will be people but its not too bad in the water even over summer. Of course, you get the summer swell, such as it is. Or NZ, there is some good surf there.
