Longboarders dropping in infront of me

It seems like longboarders are always the ones dropping in infront of me, its not that shortboarders dont cut me off on a wave to sometimes its just that longboarders are always getting in my way. do you guys think its because they have less commen decency or do they just tend to catch the shoulder rather than the peak of the wave.

what ive found is if its busy your gonna get droped in on regardless of what there riding

I noticed some surfers purposely, knowing that you have right of way on the wave, cut you off. I think it's the person mainly. Although, when it does get crowded (ie seal beach) expect to have to fight for the wave regardless if he/she is your Priest or nextdoor neighbor

With longboarders, its often that they've stood up and are cruising way before you can take off on a shorter board. So even though you might be on the peak, they're up and riding so assume they've got right of way...


BUT THEY HAVEN'T!!!

If it really is your right of way - hold onto the wave and shout 'Right!' (or 'left' obviously) and make sure they know you're there and you're on it

I had a longboarder pull this xxxxx on me, damn near run me over, and then start screaming "**** you, get out of the water". I had the right away, it was my fleshin' wave...grr that pissed me off.

Just to make it clear, if you ever take off behind me at the Mount, when I am already riding the wave, then I will give you room, but will not get off the wave, so don't waste your breath swearing and getting 'real close'.

With the right attitude a certain amount of wave sharing can occur, but realise that you have no future calling me off a wave.

Weight wise, my current boards are in the 50 pound category, so keep this in mind if you try dropping in down the line.

Hay I've heard a lot about the reef. I'm keen to hear from ya how you find it. Has it improved the quality of the waves? Your session?

I'm going to work real hard to not be such a kook with the wave stealing thing. Of course us log riders can catch waves a heap earlier.. And you're all right that whether someone will hog depends on the quality of the person.

A true surfer will share I rekon. Just because you CAN catch that wave does not make it yours. Same goes for anyone out there: beginner, learner, ripper, short or long rider, chick, hottie, ugly... wha'eva!

oh and PS.. Old fat guys that rip on long logs are HOT! So long as they nice and share! People who are grumpy and greedy out there are UGLY!! Trust me... you are ugly to chicks!!

But yea. Good intentions can sometimes blow out the window when you're real tired, desperate, impatient, see an AWESOME wave... you know. We all been there so let's stay friends.

The reef is a non event, they have run out of money and the half which they have built doesn't produce much, when the surf is overhead it breaks way outside it, it doesn't break at all in small swells and when it does break it'sjust a tiny blip of a peak.

The reef has improved the sandbanks on the inside for very small swells, but the whole Tay street zone is now ruined for bigger waves, the banks are still ok at Clyde St for bigger swells though.



PS I have a video where I am surfing the inside, and it shows the reef sort of making a tiny bit of a disturbance just on the outside, I can send you the link if you like.

Longboards will usually take the first wave in the set, be patient and wait. There will be plenty more behind it. If they paddle back up your break on a set you are trying to ride, then you should really be upset. We get some guys here that take a ride, then paddle right back up the break- that is annoying. If they are really pissing you off, let them know about it in a nice way at first- they're probably good enough folks.

As for the young dudes. I hate the group of 36 middle schoolers that claim "their" beach to be crowded. If they could get lost and go do some homework there were be plenty of room for the rest of riders.

Thanks Doogie, actually we cut off half the length of those rides, they were twice as long and went all the way to the beach but with the camera angle we couldn't see much after halfway. By the way that is a beachbreak. . . !
